When I was in the Navy (Submarines) We called the cooks "Duty Chemists"...Just teasin'. At that time they were Commisarymen. I don't know what they are called now.

You're right. We were commissarymen in your day. I started as a CS in 1970-71.
ReplyDeleteThe rating was changed to mess management specialist (MS) on Jan 1, 1975.
A few years ago, the Navy changed the title again to culinary specialist. It's much better than the MS title. I still don't like the word "specialist."
The new abbrviation is CS. It looks like we've come full circle ...
When I was in the Navy in the sixty's Cooks were Commissarymen.
