Since I didn't bring the firepan Saturday, I needed a platform to keep the Dutch ovens off the wet ground. The nice thing about working around a railroad engine house is the nearby iron rack. I laid five iron straps on the frame of the Diamond and Caldor flatcar. They made a good Dutch oven table. As you can see, the 1/4- by 4-inch-thick straps provided a sturdy platform for three 14-inch Dutch ovens.
On a side note: The first thing I do after I unload my equipment is to boil a pot of water. I hold the water inside the Army surplus insulated beverage container. It gives me a ready supply of hot water for hand and dishwashing.
